The theme of the 44th Annual Conference is "Empower Connectivity Through Technology Fusion". As usual, we will have a keynote speech and ceremony for Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in the dinner banquet. Besides, the afternoon section is Technical Forum. Dr. Jaushin Lee,Founder, President, and CEO, Zentera Systems

Jaushin is the founder and CEO of Zentera Systems. He is the visionary architect behind the award-winning Zentera CoIP (Cloud over IP) Platform that enables enterprises to dramatically accelerate their journey to Zero Trust security and implement effective defenses against many categories of cyber threats.

Jaushin brings 20 years of R&D management and executive experience in networking and computer engineering. Before Zentera, he was the founder and CEO of Imera Systems, which provided enterprise secure collaboration solutions. He built Imera from the ground up, raised three rounds of funding, and successfully acquired a number of Global 2000 enterprise customers with a multi-million dollar run rate. Earlier, he managed Cisco’s network search engine program, supporting numerous critical product lines, such as the CRS-1 router, Catalyst 4K, and Catalyst 6K, among others. Jaushin has held management positions with Terawave Communications and Silicon Graphics, as well as an assistant professorship with the EE Department at the University of Virginia.

Dr. Liu Ren, VP & Chief Scientist AI & Integrated Human-Machine Intelligence

Liu Ren is the VP and Chief Scientist at Bosch Research North America and Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence. He leads the development of cutting-edge AI technologies that integrate human and machine intelligence to drive innovation and growth for Robert Bosch Corporation, a global enterprise with over $90 billion in revenue and more than 400,000 employees worldwide. As the responsible global head, Liu oversees research activities conducted by several AI research departments and teams located in the Silicon Valley, Pittsburgh, Bangalore, and Renningen. His teams focus on a diverse range of AI research topics, including Big Data Visual Analytics, Explainable AI (XAI), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Robotics, 3D Perception and Mixed Reality, Audio Analytics, and AI platforms for industrial AI application areas such as autonomous driving, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), Industry 4.0 or smart manufacturing, and consumer goods such as home appliances. Liu's technical expertise and leadership have also been recognized with multiple awards, including the Bosch North America Inventor of the Year Award for 3D mapping in 2016 and the Best Paper Award (2018, 2020) and Best Paper Honorable Mention Award (2016, 2022) for big data visual analytics and XAI in IEEE Visualization Conference. He has also successfully led the development of several key AI and HMI products, published more than 40 papers in top-tier AI and CS conferences and journals, and holds more than 50 patents.
Fireside chat abstract: Over the past decade, artificial intelligence (AI) has had a significant impact on various application areas, such as social media, affecting everyone's lives. However, the use of AI in industrial application areas, including mobility (e.g., autonomous driving, ADAS), smart manufacturing, consumer goods (e.g., home appliances), and intelligent robots, presents both great opportunities and significant challenges. In this fireside chat, we will delve into the technical and business aspects of industrial AI, covering topics such as enhancing AI goodness through human-AI teaming, opportunities and challenges when trending AI topics such as data-centric AI, foundation models as well as generative AI such as chatGPT meet industrial AI applications. We will also discuss operational topics, such as balancing scientific and product impacts within an AI research organization, as well as AI career-related topics.

 

Bill Kao

Moderator: Dr. William Kao

Dr. William Kao received his BSEE, MSEE and PhD from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He worked in the Semiconductor and Electronic Design Automation industries for 30 years holding senior and executive engineering management positions at Texas Instruments, Xerox Corporation,
andCadence DesignSystems. Dr. Kao currently teaches Renewable Energy, Clean Technology and Business Sustainability courses at UC Santa Cruz Silicon Valley Extension, in San Jose. Dr. Kao is the founder and President of CARES (Chinese American Renewable Energy Society), now The Clean Technology Group of the Chinese Institute of Engineers (CIE) USA-SF, where he is currently a Board Member.
Dr. Kao currently serves as an advisor and consultant for several local Clean Tech firms, and is a Clean Technology consultant for the China Government, the Taiwan Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Malaysian Government Ministry of Education. From 2009-2014 Dr. Kao has authored and presented more than 40 talks, seminars, and short courses on the subjects of Clean Technology, Renewable Energy, Business Sustainability, and new Emerging Technologies such as Big Data, Internet of Things and 3D Printing.

Mr. Bo Wu, CEO and founder of Nuwton.io

As a serial entrepreneur with over twenty-year experience, Mr. Wu has founded five high-tech and Internet ventures which were acquired by other entities with increased value. Since 2021, he is the  CEO of Nuwton.io, a web3 technology company focusing on vertical NFT marketplace. In 2013 - 2019, he was founder and CEO of MEIAOJU Real Estate Corporation, an internet real estate development company, using AI technologies and Uber’s business model to improve the real estate development efficiency.  In 2009, Mr. Wu is the founder and CEO of Lashou.com, top group buying e-commerce company serving over 100 cities in China. The company was acquired by HuTuSanBao (a China public traded company) in 2013.

Mr. Wu received his Bachelor’s degree in Automation in 1988 from Tsinghua University and a Master’s degree in Computer Science in 1992 from Western Michigan University.

Vince is an experienced investor and entrepreneur with 20 years of cross border experience in founding and investing in multiple companies, strategic planning, venture capital, technology, digital entertainment and investment management.
Mr. Lane is Managing Partner of Mav3rick Ventures and advisor to multiple funds, family offices and corporate boards. Vince is the Chair of Entrepreneurship, Web3 & Blockchain in addition to serving on the Board of Director for Harvard Business School Alumni Association Northern California.

Mr. Alan Xin, Founding Partner at Wagmi33 Foundation

Alan Xing is a founding partner of Wagmi33 Foundation, a Web3 native venture investor and incubator. Alan started investing in crypto since 2013 and co-founded crypto venture firm Espeed Capital in 2018. Previously, Alan created a social media company that once had over 10 million users. Earlier in his career, Alan worked as a software engineer at Salesforce.

Mr. Jason Li, CEO and founder of MPCVault

Jason is the co-founder and CEO of MPCVault, a company that builds enterprise-grade crypto wallets for teams. With over 8 years of experience in the blockchain industry, Jason is a seasoned entrepreneur. In 2017, while studying at UC Berkeley he founded a crypto exchange which he later sold. He also co-founded LoopChat, a US college social app with over 300,000 registered students. Jason graduated Magna Cum Laude from UC Berkeley and served as a teaching assistant for numerous courses, including Computer Security and Operating Systems. MPCVault is a non-custodial business crypto wallet. It’s multi-chain, multi-sig and multi-asset. It’s trusted by over 40 businesses around the globe including Web 3 projects, trading firms and VCs.

Christie Wang is the Partner at Valere Venture, focusing on medtech and healthcare investments. She also co-founded an orthopedics surgical robot company providing total clinical solutions for neuro and spine surgeons. Prior, Christie co-founded and was President of AdcuraSpine, which developed innovative spinal interbody implants, and is in full US commercialization and acquisition discussions. Prior, Christie was Managing Director for Jiangsu Innovation Research Center (North America), a cross border investment fund focusing mainly on IOT and medical innovation. Prior, she worked for Hewlett Packard Legal/Corporate in corporate governance, investment and intellectual property.
Christie graduated from Juris Doctor (J.D.) program from Northwestern University School of Law, and Kellogg Business School. She invested and serves as advisor/board member of a number of technology and healthcare companies. She also serves on the Board of Chinese Institute of Engineers USA, San Francisco Bay Area Chapter (CIE/USA-SF). She served as mentor for Stanford University Technology Innovation. Christie was awarded the Most Outstanding Overseas Youth Chinese by the State Council of PRC in 2015 and met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Seattle. She is an amateur singer and trilingual show host.

Mr. Ian Tien, CEO and Co-founder of Mattermost

Ian previously founded SpinPunch, Inc., an award-winning online video game company whose titles were played by millions of people across 190 countries. He was formerly VP Product at Flickme, a movie streaming startup backed by Sequoia Capital, Warner Brothers and Sony Pictures. Before that, he ran product management for Microsoft’s SkyDrive and Windows Live Photos services (now “OneDrive”), and was product management lead for Hotmail (now “Outlook.com”). Prior, he led engineering teams for Microsoft Office in its enterprise software business across SharePoint and business intelligence product lines. Ian holds several patents and is an alumnus of the University of Waterloo, where he worked at Trilogy Software during school, and the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he served as teaching assistant for Andy Grove and Myron Scholes.

Kai

Dr. Kai Yang, VP of Product, Landing AI

Kai is the VP of Product at Landing AI. He is responsible for the Landing AI product vision and development. Kai also oversees the product roadmap, and works very closely with strategic partners. Before joining Landing, he founded an AI startup that focused on biological applications. He also spent fifteen years in semiconductor/EDA. He holds a Ph.D from UC Santa Barbara and a BS from National Tsing Hua University.

We are honored to have the Dr. Eugene Tu, Director at NASA Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley to be our keynote Speaker in the evening. As an Asian-American in NASA to serve as Research Center Director, Dr. Tu is leading the research center with a workforce of approximately 3500 civil servants and contractors, and $1B annual budget in support of NASA missions and programs in aeronautics, science, space exploration and technology development. Dr. Tu will share with us NASA's missions, his work at Ames Research Center in the Bay Area, and his personal history and journey as an AAPI in the US.

Keynote Speaker: 

Dr. Eugene L. Tu, Center Director of NASA's Ames Research Center

Dr. Eugene L. Tu is the Center Director at NASA's Ames Research Center in  Silicon Valley.

Appointed in May 2015, he leads a staff of civil servants and contractors in providing critical research and development support that makes NASA's and the nation’s aeronautics and space missions possible.

Tu earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1988, and both his master's degree and doctorate in aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford University in 1990 and 1996, respectively. He is an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). Tu received the NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal in 2000, the Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Executive in 2009, and the Presidential Rank Award for Distinguished Executive in 2019.

2023 Distinguished Lifetime Achievement in Entrepreneurship Award

Mr. Charles Liang, Founder and CEO of Supermicro

Founder, President, Chief Executive Officer, Chairman of the Board, Charles Liang founded Supermicro in 1993 and has been President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of the Board. Mr. Liang, a Silicon Valley entrepreneur, has been developing server system architectures and technologies for over three decades. 

With a passion for Green IT and protecting the environment, Mr. Liang has been the driving force behind Supermicro’s transformation into a Total IT Solutions provider for Enterprise, Cloud, AI, and 5G/Edge markets. Under Mr. Liang’s guidance, Supermicro has evolved from a motherboard and subsystem company to a multi-billion-dollar business optimizing complete rack and data center-level solutions customers can deploy and bring online within hours. In addition, the Company has expanded globally well beyond its San Jose, California headquarters to encompass significant manufacturing and operations campuses in Asia and Europe with over 4,000 employees globally. Mr. Liang has been granted many server technology patents. Mr. Liang holds an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the National Taiwan University of Science & Technology in Taiwan.
